Chongqing - The 2023 China Manufacturing Design Conference Yuelai International Design Forum, emphasizing "Digital Design, Intelligent Future," is slated for September 5-6 at the Yuelai International Convention and Exhibition City.

In conjunction with the upcoming Smart China Expo (SCE), this forum intends to enhance industrial design, digital economic growth, intelligent networking, and smart transportation sectors. All these facets contribute to elevating the quality of China's manufacturing sector.

Global participation amplified

"The forum, an integral part of the SCE series, broadens the expo's communication and collaboration horizons. It not only amplifies the impact of industrial design but also fosters a harmonious union of design and innovation," remarked Huang Jie, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Chongqing Yuelai Investment Group Co.

This year, the forum's global reach has notably grown. It welcomes esteemed guests from prestigious organizations such as the Alliance Francaise des Designers (AFD) and the Asian Creative Industries Alliance (Singapore). Additionally, it will host dignitaries from countries and regions connected to the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), Singaporean officials, and representatives from nations like the United Kingdom, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and Japan.

Diving deeper into its areas of expertise, this year's forum sharpens its focus on specific subjects. It features more sub-forums, a more comprehensive range of themes, and a more targeted approach than its previous iteration.

The forum highlights Chongqing's central role in the design industry and emphasizes the interconnectedness of the entire design supply chain.

Staying attuned to the latest in the industry, the event aims to explore groundbreaking technologies, up-and-coming trends, and innovative developments in industrial design, further solidifying its stature and leadership in the field.

More than 80 projects spotlighted

With more than 80 projects spotlighted in the "Design Capital" initiative, Chongqing's manufacturing landscape is on a rapid growth trajectory, underscoring the escalating importance of industrial design. As a major manufacturing center, Chongqing presents expansive opportunities for blossoming the industrial design sector.

In August 2023, Chongqing marked a significant milestone by meeting the 2023 UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) qualification standards. This accomplishment heralds Chongqing's official progression into the evaluation stages for the coveted "Design Capital" title.

In 2021, Chongqing was the sole city in western China selected as one of four national demonstration cities for industrial design. In 2022, an action plan was unveiled to build on this recognition and actively strive to attain the status of a UNESCO World Design Capital.

"Chongqing's design industry is currently experiencing steady growth. We've seen the establishment of 10 national-level industrial design centers, 165 at the municipal level, 18 objectives within municipal-level industrial design research institutes, and 89 at the district and county levels," remarked Zhao Gang, a member of the Party Group of the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.

Significantly, ten master studios dedicated to industrial design have been initiated. Furthermore, 46 training bases for the manufacturing design sector and 83 pivotal projects have been pinpointed under the "Design Capital" initiative, garnering an aggregate investment of over 3 billion yuan (approximately USD 412.02 million).
