Good morning! It gives me great pleasure to meet friends from the media. I would like to begin by extending, on behalf of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Secretary Chen Min’er, the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government and Mayor Tang Liangzhi, as well as the Smart China Expo (SCE) Organizing Committee, a warm welcome to all journalists present here today and a sincere gratitude to those from the media and other sectors who have been caring and supporting the Smart China Expo!
You may be aware that the 1st SCE was held on 23-25 August, 2018 in Chongqing. China’s President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter while Vice Premier Han Zheng of the State Council attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. Chongqing has been selected as a permanent site of SCE, which speaks to the priority attached by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to the development of smart technologies and attention given to Chongqing.The 1st SCE, an high-end and international grand gathering of smart industries with extensive participation, and far-reaching influence, presents a wonderful exchange of insights , showcases the development trend of the global smart industry and builds a platform for matchmaking and practical international cooperation. It promotes the integration of the digital economy and the real economy, connectivity and win-win cooperation among countries,regions and business communities, exerting fundamental and profound influence to the digital economy in China and the rest of the world.
On 15-17 April, 2019, President Xi Jinping made an inspection tour to Chongqing and envisioned that “Chongqing should follow the Central Government’s vision in pursuing its growth and make due contributions to China’s development. It should continue to be an anchor of the Large-scale Western Development in the new era, a driver in advancing Belt and Road cooperation and a leader of green development along the Yangtze Economic Belt”. President Xi Jinping instructed that “SCE should continue to be held with high standards and Chongqing should deeply engage in international cooperation to promote digital economy”. Following General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions and requirements, Chongqing will work to deliver successful SCE events as key measures to build “a Municipality with dual geographic importance working to achieve twin goals and parallel progress in its growth strategy and to play its role as an anchor, a driver and a leader”.SCE also helps industrialize the digital economy and boost digital application in traditional industries, thus enabling Chongqing to seize the momentum of the digital economy and ensure that smart technologies can empower the economy and enrich lives.
Approved the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, the 2019 Smart China Expo will be held on 26-29 August at Chongqing International Expo Center. It is jointly hosted by the Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the PRC, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, China Association for Science and Technology. With 76 days away from the Opening Ceremony, Chongqing now has entered the SCE Time with all preparation work in full swing.
Continuing with the theme of “Smart Technology: Empowering Economy, Enriching Life”, SCE 2019will focus on a series of events including conferences, exhibitions, contests, and forums. Conference: Heads of political party and state will be invited to the Opening Ceremony to deliver remarks while foreign political dignitaries, renowned domestic and foreign entrepreneurs and experts and scholars will make speeches in the Big Data and Smart Technology Summit, inspiring innovation and embracing brighter prospects for smart industries.Exhibitions: With an estimated indoor exhibition area of over 150,000 sm2, the event will also be a showcase of the latest products, technologies, business forms and models of the global big data and smart industries.Contests:The finals and roadshows will be held as professional platforms for project execution and brain gain.Forums: Centering on the hot topics of 5G, “Smart Technology+” and Smart Development under the Belt and Road Initiative, leading entrepreneurs and academicians will have in-depth discussions on and provide solutions to the technology application bottlenecks and demand ends of big data and smart technology, thus empowering economy and enriching lives.
Attracting greater international participation, SCE 2019 is committed to international cooperation of digital economy. Singapore, the United Kingdom and Italy will be the guest countries of honor for SCE 2019, whose special exhibition zones and series events will present their outcomes in smart industries.The political figures from the Guest Countries will explore topics like “smart government services”, “smart city” and “smart life”.We have also sent invitations to well-known companies, experts, scholars and scientific research institutions of the global smart industry, and received positive responses.Some of the already-confirmed speakers of the event include Kostya Novoselov, Nobel Prize winner for physics; Whitfield Diffie, a Turing awardee and the father of public key encryption; Daniel McNamara, senior vice president at Intel Corporation; Jack Ma, Chairman of Alibaba;Robin Li, Chairman of Baidu; Lei Jun, Chairman of Xiaomi; and Wang Xing, founder and CEO of meituan.com. 2000 plus domestic and foreign guests are expected to attend the event, showing extensive sectors of the guests and higher international exposure of exhibitors compared with the 1st SCE.
In particular, Belt and Road countries will be invited to SCE 2019 to discuss measures for improving industrial complementarity and project cooperation, achieving mutually beneficial cooperation and sharing benefits, thus better underpinning the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. Together with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, we will host the Belt and Road Smart Technology Development Conference to propose ideas and suggestions to facilitate the development of the smart industry of the participating countries, thus conveying Chongqing’s message and contributing Chongqing’s wisdom as a driver in advancing the Belt and Road cooperation. Thematic forums and events will be held by smart-technology-related companies to advance the Belt and Road cooperation.
Being a professional event of the smart sector, SCE 2019 is committed to presenting deliverables and projects matchmaking.With key focuses of smart industry, smart manufacturing and smart application, we will set up six exhibition zones: general trend and policy directions, smart technology and product, smart manufacturing, smart application, regional innovation and smart life interactive experience. The six zones will closely complement each other and offer an all-round, panoramic display of the status quo and trends of the development of the smart industry. At present, Google, Intel, Mitsubishi Electric, SK Hynix, Qualcomm, STMicroelectronics, Huawei, Lenovo, Alibaba, CASIC, Haier, TSINGHUA UNIGROUP, Inspur, Meituan, Xiaomi and other Fortune 500 companies and China's top 500 companies have confirmed participation. We also arranged a professional visitor day and set up a B2B area in each venue to provide a more professional and comfortable communication and cooperation environment for the participants. Aiming to build SCE into an authoritative platform to launch scientific and technological outcomes and release development trends of smart industries at home and abroad, relevant national-level ministries and commissions and think tank organizations will release industry standards, index reports, ranking lists and white papers on topics including 5G, information security, artificial intelligence, industrial Internet and etc. during the Expo. Especially, the Top 50 Global Smart Manufacturing System Integrators and the China Industrial Internet and Smart Industry Development Index and other exclusive contents will be released for the first time internationally. In addition, domestic and foreign leading companies will launch their latest cutting-edge technologies and products during the Expo.
SCE 2019 will further highlight its branding and continuously expand its influence. We will further cultivate and create a number of signature forums and events and continue to host themed activities which gained wide popularity last year, including the Global Digital Economy Summit, Mayors’ Roundtable for International Sister Cities of Chongqing and International Sister City Business Summit, i-Vista Self-driving Challenge and International Drone Race Performance. We will continue to enrich the contents of events and expand influence. Around 5G, a hot topic with broad impact, we will invite operators, well-known suppliers and research institutes to jointly hold the 5G Smart Connectivity for the Future Summit, focusing on industrial transformation and the impact on social development brought about by the advancement of 5G enabling industries, to together discuss 5G development prospects and sharing 5G conveniences and advantages. We will also co-host the Intel FPGA Smart Innovation Global Competition with Intel Corporation to callup FPGA-based products and projects from around the world and showcase top-level designs and examples. We will organize a collection of brand forums for well-known enterprises to create a grand collection of elites and wisdom and to explore more innovation windows. Alibaba, Huawei, and iFLYTECH have confirmed that they will continue to host relevant forums at SCE 2019.
SCE 2019 will enhance the sense of experience and bring frontier technology such as 5G closer to life. In order to let our citizens truly feel the changes brought by smart technology to our lives, we have created four real-life experience venues: Lijia "Smart Eco-city" in Liangjia New Area, Yuelai Smart Life Interactive Experience Zone, Yubei Xiantao Data Valley Smart Traffic and Self-driving Demonstration Zone and the Smart Valley Smart Technology Experience Area in Chongqing Economic Development Zone (Nan’an District), so that people can truly experience future life from zero distance. Focusing on smart life, smart production and smart facilities, we have established more than 50 real-life scenarios including unmanned supermarkets, smart medical care, face-recognition storage service, hydrogen fuel vehicles, smart navigation, self-driving, AR games, and smart fitness trails, etc., comprehensively exhibiting the latest achievements of the smart industry and providing a vivid presentation of a future smart city. During SCE 2019, all venues and outdoor smart experience areas of the Chongqing International Expo Center will also be equipped with full 5G coverage. Our citizens can truly have a taste ofthe “5G speed” and SCE 2019 will become an experience zone of 5G ecology for the city.
SCE 2019 will further improve the level of conference organization. Fully in line with the eight-point guidelines issued by the CPC leadership, we will practice frugality and organize the Expo in a pragmatic and efficient manner. We will provide full protection of intellectual property, further strengthen security measures and ensure smooth and successful holding of the Expo.We will further enhance the level of services, improve infrastructure, utilize big data and smart technologies to provide better traffic coordination, catering services and exhibition navigation, ensuring quality services for participating guests, enterprises and visitors.
It is foreseeable that under the attentive guidance of the central ministries and relevant commissions, with the strong support of the brother provinces and cities, SCE 2019 will be a grand gathering of elites, experts, scholars and business leaders from home and abroad to feast on leading science and technology, discuss development of the smart industry, and draw a blueprint for smart life. We will welcome friends from all over the world with full enthusiasm and guarantee quality services.
