Chongqing – In the upcoming Smart China Expo, a 5G network will cover the Chongqing International Expo Center to support the operation of a massive amount of 5G applied technologies. China’s three major mobile carriers, China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom, have built over 200 5G base stations around the main venue to meet the demand.  However, that is just a miniature of the three major mobile carriers’  5G deployment in Chongqing.

China Telecom assists Chongqing to take a leading role in 5G intelligent network automobile R&D

Chongqing is among China Telecom’s top ten 5G construction cities. China Telecom plans to build around 3000 base stations in Chongqing within 2019 to broadly cover the nine central districts. Centered around the principal CBDs in Jiefangbei, Guanyinqiao and  Nan’an District, the network will radiate across four banks and two rivers to central urban areas. Telecom’s 5G network will cover the main government centers, industrial parks, critical scientific research units, universities, transportation hub, scenic and cultural spots.

Early this year, China Telecom together with China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) and DT Mobile jointly launched the first public service platform of 5G autonomous driving application demonstration in China and made full use of C-V2X vehicle-road collaboration technology and intelligent roadside detection technology to pilot the first automatic driving application project under urban traffic scenarios. Based on the cooperation of the three sides, Chongqing will take the lead in building a nationally leading “efficient, connected, reliable and safe” 5G intelligent network automobile system, driving the development of related enterprises and empowering 5G autonomous driving in China.

In May, China telecom and CAERI carried out the first phase pilot experience of 5G intelligent network automobile in Xiantao Big Data Valley of Chongqing, which took advantages of the high bandwidth and low latency of 5G to realize remote driving. The pilot experience mainly involves 5G and VR applications, 5G video broadcast applications, and remote driving control applications based on 5G.

Twenty lucky customers in Chongqing have started the 5G experience on their 5G phones released by China Mobile.

Chongqing is among the first batch of cities for China Mobile to carry out 5G scale tests and application demonstrations. Last April, China Mobile opened Chongqing’s first 5G trial network. Last November, it built the city’s first pilot area covered by 5G, and in April, China Mobile made the city’s first 5G phone.

On July 30, 20 5G experience customers in Chongqing received 5G mobile phones and phone cards through Chongqing Mobile and started the 5G experience. Before the official commercial use of 5G, China Mobile launched the short-term 5G free experience program, which offered Chongqing’s 5G phone users 100GB mobile internet per month with the bandwidth that up to 1Gbps. Meanwhile, to enable the public to experience 5G, the mobile experience vehicle run by China Mobile drove to 20 districts of Chongqing to have more citizens to experience 5G applications. In addition, seven 5G experience halls, including China Mobile outlets in Guanyinqiao Jiefangbei are open to the public to experience 5G phone and network.

China Mobile plans to cover Chongqing’s crucial urban business areas, transportation hubs, popular scenic spots, large venues, universities, hospitals, intelligent parks with 5G network. In the next two years, it will achieve full 5G coverage over the main urban areas and critical districts and counties.

China Mobile in Chongqing will promote in-depth cooperation on 5G smart application projects in fields such as urban management, transportation, and logistics, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, smart education, smart tourism, and smart agriculture. China Mobile has developed a 5G autonomous bus, which is in a trial phrase, and 5G autonomous ships to support the protection and search and rescue work, as well as water surface mapping.

China Unicom actively develops 5G applications to enrich people’s life.

In Chongqing, China Unicom’s 5G construction has covered principal government offices, key transportation hubs, digital economy industrial parks, popular scenic spots and met the demands from smart cultural tourism, smart parks, smart cruises, remote driving, smart medical treatment, high-definition video live broadcast.

China Unicom carried out the first 5G commercial live broadcasting in China. At 2019 Chongqing International Marathon in Nan’an District of Chongqing, powered by 5G, the 360-degree panoramic view of the marathon was displayed on the giant LED screen in China Unicom hall. The Chongqing citizens put on the VR glasses to virtually experience the crowds’ passion and enthusiasm about running.

On Chongqing’s famous two river cruise, China Unicom installed a 5G and VR holographic projection to make the Chaotianhaoyue cruise the first smart cruise powered by 5G in China.

China Unicom cooperated with Wulong scenic area to develop a 5G, Drone, and VR live broadcasting experience. It enables the tourists to enjoy the real-time grand view of the Three Natural Bridges without personally being there. China Unicom also covers the 5G network over Gele Mountain and cooperates with Hongyan Museum to carry out 5G, VR and Red education.

On April 22, China Unicom join hands with a hospital to carry out remote heart surgery based on 5G, which is the first 5G and smart medical treatment project in western China,

China Unicom plans to cover Chongqing’s rail transit with a 5G network in the near future so that the passengers can enjoy the benefits from the 5G.
