Chongqing — The 19th China Adolescent Robotics Competition (CARC) and 2019 World Adolescent Robot Contest opened in Chongqing on August 13, 2019. About 3000 people from 31 countries and regions attended the opening ceremony, including adolescent competitors, coaches, judges, journalists, and volunteers.

The 19th CARC has five competitions, namely comprehensive skills competition, creative competition, FLL robot engineering challenge, VEX robot engineering challenge, and educational robot engineering challenge. There are 525 teams from all over the country participated in the competition.

Accordingly, the 2019 World Adolescent Robot Contest consists of three events: WRO regular competition, VEX IQ challenge, and MakeX robot challenge. A total of 113 teams and 319 competitors from nearly 30 countries and regions, including Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and South America, participated in the contest.

Competitors from the United Arab Emirates are preparing for the VEX IQ challenge

In the VEX IQ challenge，adolescent competitors are from different countries and regions, as such they have to cooperate with random teams to overcome language barriers and get score points. “I am excited and nervous about working with a Chinese partner for the first time in the challenge.” Alzarooni, an 11 years old junior competitor from the United Arab Emirates, told reporters.

“This is the first time for our Mexico team to participate in the VEX ID challenge, there are two teachers and three students in our team. When we start to learn coding and programming and participate in the competition, we found this game is so interesting and deserve to develop. It was a great experience in Chongqing, and also, we learned a lot from the competition.” A VEX IQ coach from Mexico told us.

Russian players and Chinese players cooperated together in WRO regular competition

According to the introduction of related principal from Chongqing Association for Science and Technology, this competition adopts the mode of “competition plus exhibition plus meeting” for the first time to build the youth robot competition carnival and adolescent technology education platform. Besides, robotics education industry exhibition and theme forum were held for the first time in the same period. During the competition, “Friendship Night” as well as other activities will be held to promote communications between Chinese and foreign teenager’s science and technology enthusiasts.

The exhibition attracted young robot enthusiasts to experience

During the competition, the teams will be evaluated in terms of innovative thinking, practical operation, and teamwork by means of venue competition, questions, and debates. And finally, the champion and awards of different age groups will be produced, and the awards ceremony will be held at the closing ceremony on the on August 16.

The CARC was founded in 2001. It is a popular science and technology activity organized by the China Association for Science and Technology for primary and middle school students nationwide, which integrates knowledge accumulation, skill training, and exploratory learning.
