On the morning of August 27, the 2019 SCE hosted the Integrated Circuit (IC) Industry Development Forum.

IC plays an essential role in the intelligent industrial chain, and this Forum takes Genes of the Intelligence Age as the theme. More than 500 IC industry experts and entrepreneurs participated in, including government leaders, Nobel Laureates, noted academicians, domestic and foreign senior experts and scholars, and well-known enterprise executives.

Shuji Nakamura, Nobel Laureate in Physics gave a speech on the forum. 

 

At the Forum, experts and scholars discussed the industry prospects of IC in the development path of More Moore and More than Moore in an era of rapid development of smart industry, communicated the IC industry cooperation and academic problems, discussed the IC technology and product research and development progress, shared research results and experience of the institutions, and explored the future development direction of the IC’s scientific and technological innovation.

Gao Tao, Deputy General Manager of China Electronic Technology Group Corporation (CETC) introduced that CETC and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government will gradually build the 20.32-cm silicon-based optoelectronics and the 30.48-cm unique process platform within 3 to 5 years, to construct a world-class IC research and development center.

Xiong Xue, Deputy Mayor of Chongqing, stated that Chongqing is one of the earliest cities in China to develop large-scale IC, and CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee and Chongqing Municipal People’s Government always attach great importance to the IC industry development and take it as a crucial catalyst for innovation-driven development. In addition, they are determined to strengthen independent innovation in core technologies and speed the IC industry development to make it bigger and stronger, thus empowering Chongqing’s economic and social development. IC industry clusters represented by Liangjiang New Area and Chongqing Xiyong Micro-electronics Industrial Park have formed, and the whole process system of “IC design — wafer manufacturing — packaging, testing, and raw material matching” has been preliminarily completed.

Nobel Prize winner Shuji Nakamura, known as Father of Blue Light who influenced the photoelectric technology of the 21st century, made an academic report on Invention of Blue LED and the Future Lighting. According to the report, thanks to the successful development of red and blue LED, plant factories can be developed in parts of the world that are not suitable for farming, and the LED technology can be applied to various fields such as radar. Radar technology requires scanning and ranging, while blue LED technology can realize higher imaging rate and definition, thus reducing the number of car accidents. Moreover, blue LED technology can be applied to the mobile phone’s facial recognition and other functions.

Alessandro Cremonesi, Group Vice President and General Manager of System Research and Applications of STMicroelectronics (ST), reported on Applications of IC in Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things.
