Chongqing Simian Mountain Scenic Area

Chongqing Simian Mountain Scenic Area is a National 5A-level Scenic Area, National Park of China, First Batch of Top 10 Tourist Resorts in Chongqing.

With a total area of 213.37 square kilometers, Chongqing Simian Mountain Scenic Area has 128 attraction sites s in the core scenic area like Wangxiangtai, Tudiyan, Longtan Lake, Honghai Lake, and Pearl Lake (Shuikousi Waterfall, Pingshan Mountain, and Dawopu Jungle haven’t been developed yet). As a “Hometown of Longevity” and a place abundant in selenium, it also has unique natural landscapes, a beautiful eco-environment, and rich tourism resources, favored as a premium destination for leisure, vacation, and sightseeing. Located in the southwest of Chongqing, the scenic area is 130 kilometers away from Chongqing City Proper and 90 kilometers from the urban area of Jiangjin District. In terms of geology, it is of inverted relief in the north of the Dalou Mountains on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. In 1988, the Simian Mountain Scenic Area was recognized as Chongqing Municipal-level Natural Reserve; in 1994, it was chosen as one among the third batch of National Scenic Area; in 2006, it was rated as a national 4A-level scenic area; in 2011, it was awarded as a Best Place for Landscape Photography in China and chosen as one among the “Top 10 Most Popular Scenic Areas among Chinese Netizens” and the “Top 10 Most Beautiful Forest Parks in China”. In the Simian Mountain Scenic Area, the Wangxiangtai Waterfall was chosen as one among the “Top 10 Most Beautiful Waterfalls in China”; Hongdong Village won the title of “National Famous Tourism Village with Featured Landscape”; Simian Village won the title of “National Demonstration for Leisure Agriculture and Rural Tourism”; the Story of the “Love Ladder” was awarded as one of the “Top Ten Classic Love Stories of Contemporary China”; the Simian Mountain Love-themed Drive-in Cinema & Campsite was awarded as one of the “Top Ten Self-driving Tour Campsite in China in 2013”. In 2014, the Simian Mountain Scenic Area was awarded as one of the first Chongqing Municipal-level Tourist Resorts and the Top Ten Routes of the “Beautiful China” Thematic Tourism and rated as a “Famous Chinese Cultural Tourism Scenery with International Influence”, a National Ecotourism Demonstration Area, and the Best Township for Tourism and Leisure in Chongqing. In 2015, it was rated as a national 5A-level classification of tourism attractions.
