As a national transportation science and technology innovation and achievement industrialization base, China Merchants Communications Institute has built 21 national, provincial and ministerial scientific and technological innovation and entrepreneurship platforms, including "National Mountain Highway Engineering Technology Research Center" and "National Key Laboratory of Bridge Engineering Safety and Toughness". It is the first enterprise in the industry to build a national key laboratory, covering all major specialties of highway traffic construction. It has 1 post-doctoral research station, 1 doctoral program and 5 master's programs jointly established with institutions of higher learning; Its annual R&D investment intensity is nearly 10%, and it has undertaken more than 1000 key scientific research projects including the National 863 Plan, the National 973 Plan, the National Key R&D Plan, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, etc., forming more than ten professional and technical categories such as roads, bridges, tunnels, ports, waterways, traffic engineering, soil restoration, watershed management, ecological landscape, service area buildings, intelligent management and maintenance, intelligent detection, intelligent vehicle inspection, ship repair and hydraulic structures, logistics park, etc. It constitutes an intensive and efficient scientific and technological innovation system. It takes the lead in highway construction in complex and difficult mountainous areas, intelligent management and maintenance of traffic infrastructure, vehicle-road collaborative automatic driving, etc. It has successively won nearly 30 national scientific and technological progress awards, compiled nearly 120 standards and specifications, and has nearly 250 invention patents, creating many "first" in China.
