In 2014, Professor Li Zexiang of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, together with Professor Gao Bingqiang and Professor Gan Jie, established XBOTPARK, which has invested in and incubated more than seventy technology enterprises, with a survival rate of up to 80%, and 100% of which are hard science and technology enterprises, and 15% have become unicorns or quasi-unicorns. Professor Li Zexiang is committed to exploring and promoting the new engineering entrepreneurship model that combines industry, academia and research, and focuses on cultivating applied innovation and entrepreneurship talents.

For a long time, the construction industry has been deeply plagued by structural problems such as high construction costs and uneven quality, as well as social problems such as construction safety, labour shortages and material wastage. Focusing on the field of intelligent construction, Professor Li Zexiang has successively promoted the establishment of Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics (HKCRC) and Chongqing Intelligent Construction Research Institute (CQCRC).

Established in 2020, Hong Kong Center for Construction Robotics (HKCRC) is a scientific research incubation centre with the participation of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of California, Berkeley, and Tsinghua University, and is part of the InnoHK project of the HKSAR Government. Led by Professor Li Zexiang, HKCRC has assembled the world's top professors, scholars and industry resources to build an intelligent innovation incubation platform for the construction industry, and is committed to bringing advanced technologies such as robot, automation, and AI into the construction industry.

Chongqing Intelligent Construction Research Institute (CQCRC) was established in 2022 with the support of Chongqing Government and Fuling District Government. It is a key project of Chongqing-Hong Kong cooperation. Summarising Professor Li Zexiang's more than 20 years of experience in scientific research and incubation, and combining with industrial foundation and advantages of Fuling District, CQCRC has landed all elements of the intelligent construction science and innovation industry in Chongqing through the multi-initiative of "cultivating+introducing+grafting", and is committed to building a science and innovation base of intelligent construction industry integrating scientific research, incubation and industrialisation with national influence.
