Chongqing public transport was founded in 1933. In 2002, Chongqing Public Transport Group was established and due to the structural reform of the urban transportation integration implemented by the municipal government, it was incorporated into the Chongqing City Transportation Development and Investment Group in 2009. The group mainly engaged in passenger transportation such as bus, taxi, Yangtze River cableway, and escalator, and also vigorously develops the integration of transportation and tourism, new energy, intelligent connection and other new business forms. There are more than 26,200 registered employees, 8,822 operating buses, 787 bus lines, and 1,942 taxis. Additionally, there are also 148 bus stops, spreading throughout an area of about 125.5 hectares, in which 25 hub stations, 92 first and terminal stations, 20 parking lots, 7 maintenance yards, and 4 repair stations are included. The firm also runs 53 new energy charging stations and 1,182 charging terminals, and manages 17 fully-owned holding companies and owns influential brands across the country and the industry like "Yangtze River Cableway", "Ally Bus", "Urban Sightseeing and Roaming in Chongqing" etc. In the main urban area, public transportation is handled by the four major sub-companies, Southern Bus, Western Bus, Northern Bus, and Liangjiang Bus.

In recent years, the public transport group has focused on deepening supply-side structural reform, continuously optimized its industrial structure, and set up several major industrial sectors like the new energy buses, emerging passenger market services, featured tourism, transportation big data, and logistics support. The business scope involves the sales, maintenance and charging of new energy vehicle, customized public transport, urban tourism, transportation big data smart solution provider, as well as catering industry, new media operation, cultural and innovative development, and other emerging business forms.
